A few years ago I took some portraits of a WWII hero who is now 96 years old. He told me that he went to Europe from early 1941 to late 1945 to fight for freedom. He was a member of General Patton's division. General Patton was the most heroic general in WWII. I told him that I liked General Patton's character. The veteran said that everyone loved working for General Patton. When I asked him why, he said that General Patton was always at the forefront of every battle, that he cared about his soldiers, and that he won every battle. After taking the pictures, I watched him walk to his car. I just feel that heroes like this veteran are the ones who really need the best respect and treatment. They put their lives in the most dangerous situations for the freedom we have today.
